Mountain View Colts get a big road win

The Mountain View Colts were in action last night in Heritage Junior Hockey League midweek play.

They hit the road to Servus Arena for the first half of a home-and-home series against their Northern Division rivals, the Red Deer Vipers.

The Colts came out flying, jumping to a 2–0 lead with goals from Joseph Krukowski and Beau Van Vlaanderen. But Red Deer pushed back, scoring twice to tie the game before the first intermission.

In the second period, captain Trey Mueller hammered home a go-ahead marker, and Nate Smith followed up to restore Mountain View’s two-goal cushion. Red Deer’s Mason Hammerback responded late in the frame, cutting the Colts’ lead to one heading into the third.

Aiden Saunders opened the scoring in the final period, but the Vipers answered again with a goal from Brett Leslie. Ryder Hammer then notched what proved to be the game-winner with 11:32 remaining. Red Deer clawed back with a late goal, but Mueller sealed the win with an empty-netter, giving the Colts a 7–5 road victory.

The win improves Mountain View’s record to 14–8 and brings the third-place Colts to within four points of second-place Red Deer.

These two teams won’t have to wait long for the rematch—they’ll face off again Friday night in Didsbury. You can catch the game live on 96.5 The Ranch beginning at 8:15.
