Albertans have a few more weeks to add some extra cash to their pockets.
The provincial government has extended the application deadline for the Alberta Energy Rebate to Oct. 31. Officials said the rebate offers a direct, one-time payment of $100 to eligible Albertans “to help with the costs of everyday essentials”.
The application portal, which opened July 1, has seen over 1.45 million Albertans apply, according to the provincial government.
“By extending the deadline, we are giving more families the time they need to apply and receive real relief,” said Jason Nixon, President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance.
Eligible two-adult households can get $200 in flexible relief that can be used for any household need, and families may also benefit from an extra $100 rebate for each eligible adult family member or child aged 18 or older who is living in the same house.
The province added a third payment verification option to the online portal, in an effort to improve the application process. On top of online banking and document verification, applicants can apply for their rebate using their 2025 Notice of Assessment.
More on the program, including a link to apply, is available on the provincial government website.
FUEL TAX SUSPENSION
In another effort to provide relief, on Oct. 1, the Alberta government suspended the provincial fuel tax. Officials said the pause will save Albertans 13 cents per litre at the pumps for the rest of the year.
