The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is observed annually on September 30th to honour residential school survivors, their families and the children who never returned home.
Joleen Fluet with the Indigenous Services Team at Olds College says over the past few years they have focused deeply on the truth within the truth and reconciliation. True reconciliation cannot begin without the honest, thorough understanding of our history, according to Fluet.
This year, she adds, the college is now ready to take the next step towards reconciliation. Fluet says “to honour this commitment, several of our staff members who have built respectful relationships with Indigenous communities will share their perspective on what true reconciliation looks like in their practice, and what it means to them personally.”
It will all take place on Monday, September 28th from 1:30 until 3pm at the Hive on the lower level of the LRC Building on the Olds College campus.
Also this week, they will have Fry Bread Tacos from 11:30 until 1pm on Tuesday, September 29th in the Gathering Room. It is also in the LRC Building.
