Albertans can soon apply for a new energy rebate.
$100 could hit your bank account if you are 18 or older, have a household income of $225,000 or less, and have filed a 2025 tax return.
Jason Nixon, Alberta’s Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, points out that this is the law that has been set out by the provincial legislature. Nixon – who is also the MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre – says “when a quarter has this average of oil – price per barrel to be very clear, not price at the pump – above $90 that we would rebate either the fuel tax at the pump in the following quarter or the way that we are choosing to do it, money that was already collected in the last quarter because of the changing situation and the fact that this gets more money into Albertans’ pockets.” Over the quarter’s 20-day review period the average price was $92.74 for a barrel of West Texas Intermediate.
Those who are eligible will be able to apply for the $100 stimulus through a secure online portal starting on July 1st. The province estimates that will be nearly 3.4 million Albertans. The portal will close on September 30th.
