Mountain View County provided an update via its social media channels this afternoon about a wildfire that is currently classified as out of control and located about two and a half kilometers west of the Forestry Trunk Road and Highway 584. It is currently northwest of Sundre and not within the Mountain View County boundaries.
“Mountain View County is actively monitoring an out-of-control wildfire located within the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, approximately 2.5 km west of the junction of Highway 40 (Forestry Trunk Road) and Highway 584, northwest of Sundre, Alberta.
The wildfire, identified as RWF036, is currently estimated at approximately 30 hectares in size. According to Alberta Wildfire, strong winds and dry vegetation are contributing to increased wildfire activity in the area. Firefighters, supported by air tankers, helicopters, and heavy equipment, remain on scene responding to the incident.
At this time, the wildfire is not within Mountain View County boundaries and there is currently no risk to County communities. However, Mountain View County is closely monitoring the situation and remains in communication with provincial partners and neighbouring municipalities. Should conditions change or the wildfire spread into Mountain View County, additional public information and emergency updates will be provided.
Residents travelling in the area are advised that portions of Highway 40 (Forestry Trunk Road) are currently closed due to smoke and wildfire activity. Residents are encouraged to monitor official sources for the latest road closures, wildfire conditions, and emergency alerts.
