The 2026 edition of the Sundre Pro Rodeo is in the books and among the highlights was a trio of local competitors finishing 1, 2, 3 in tie down roping.
Wimborne’s Jason Smith won with a time of 7.8 seconds. He was followed by Kyle Lucas from Carstairs in second place (8.0 seconds) and Wimborne’s Shane Smith in third (8.1 seconds).
In the roughstock events .. Kody Lamb from Sherwood Park placed first in bareback (89 points), Millarville’s Layton Green was tops in saddle bronc (88 points), and Holden Atkinson from Black Diamond was the best of the bunch in bull riding (84 points).
Evan Spady from Alliance and Tim Kemp from Ontario tied for the steer wrestling title. They both got the job done in 3.9 seconds.
The super loopers at the Sundre Pro Rodeo this year were Denim Ross from Botha and Kavis Drake from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan with a time of 4.5 seconds in team roping.
Blake Molle from Chauvin set the pace in barrel racing with a quick 17.23 second run, while Bradi Whiteside from Longview was fastest in breakaway roping (2.1 seconds).
Didsbury’s Emett Archer was tops in steer riding (72.5 points, Lundbreck’s Ryatt Thompson earned the first place spot in novice saddle bronc (76 points), and Quaide Skjonsberg from Bluffton turned in the best score in novice bareback (74 points).
Pro Rodeo Canada cowboys and cowgirls start this week with stops in Fort MacLeod (June 24-26) and Ponoka (June 25-July 1).
