Built to last: Repayment of Mount View Lodge debentures celebrated by County, Seniors’ Housing

The longstanding partnership that Mountain View County has built with Mountain View Seniors’ Housing recently reached a special milestone.

The County’s Deputy Reeve Dwayne Fulton is Board Chair for MVSH. He notes a chapter in their relationship has been completed now that the mortgages have been paid that helped finance the construction of the Mount View Lodge in Olds nearly twenty years ago. Fulton says “it is an outstanding organization, all the municipal partners work well together. You know, we’re finally getting to the spot now where it is more than just day-to-day. Making sure all of that is done, we’re really trying to focus and plan for the future and see where the needs are, what can we do, who we can partner with and moving forward that way.”

County officials point out that bylaws passed in 2008 authorized Mountain View County to borrow up to $6.5 million through the Alberta Municipal Financing Corporation and then loan those funds to Mountain View Seniors’ Housing to finance construction of the new lodge in Olds. Those bylaws have now officially been rescinded.

Fulton adds, the golf tournament for the Mountain View Seniors’ Housing Foundation in September is an annual event that helps fills the fundraising void for the purchase of new items such as furniture, fixtures, and accessible tubs for their seniors’ housing facilities.
