Soar towards a career in aviation aboard COPA Flight 142

Youth can take their interest in planes to new heights this Saturday with some assistance from the Olds-Didsbury-Flying Association.

Local Committee Chairman Ed Shaw highlights the fact that COPA Flight 142 is a free discover aviation program for those ages 8 to 19 to learn more about the industry. He says “it is a free 20 minute flight. Licensed pilots. Certified aircraft. It is insured by the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) and the County of Mountain View is assisting with the fuel costs.”

Shaw says registration closes at 6pm this Friday, but spots have been filing up fast. He says “it will be a briefing when you get onto a plane and you’ll be paired up with a pilot. There will be three students per plane. They will take a circuit, depending on the wind pattern but normally the one pattern is we will fly out of the airport, fly south over the Town of Didsbury, go west for about 6-8 miles, then north and then east over the Town of Olds, and then back into a return flight to the airport.” Register on the Olds-Didsbury Flying Association website.

COPA Discover Aviation will run from 9am until 3:30 on Saturday, June 6th at the Olds-Didsbury airport. If the weather does not co-operate it will be moved to June 13th instead.
