We’re rolling now: MV Regional Film Office showcases grand opening of West of 22 Productions

It was lights, camera, action on Canada Day as the Mountain View Regional Film Office celebrated an addition to the region’s production infrastructure.

Nelisha Bruce is the Town of Didsbury representative with the Regional Film Office. She notes they had some Town council members on hand for it along with founder Sterling Toews and family for the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for West of 22 Productions Inc. Bruce says “absolutely so much pride. It is great having such a fantastic facility in Town and in the region to take advantage of the higher top up tax credit. We are very excited to continue working with them.”

West of 22 is located on 27th Avenue in Didsbury and Bruce says featured inside is the 20-foot greenscreen and soundstage that is the only facility of its kind outside of Calgary or Edmonton. Staying in the region and avoiding a trip to a major city, can help productions retain Alberta’s 30 per cent rural film and television tax incentive.

The Town of Didsbury, the Town of Sundre and Mountain View County partnered together to create the province’s first and only regional, rural film office. MVRFO officials highlight the fact that Under the Banner of Heaven, Fargo, Die My Love, The Order and Wynonna Earp are among the productions the region has hosted in the past.
