Heavy rainfall results in flood watch for local campgrounds

A deluge of rain has officials with the Town of Sundre and Mountain View County monitoring conditions closely.

The Town of Sundre was advised by the Alberta River Forecast Centre that higher flows were expected to begin on the Red Deer River on Sunday, June 28th and they are anticipated to peak on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Mountain View County notes that on June 28th the River Forecast Center issued a flood watch for the campgrounds located near Sundre and along the Little Red Deer River. Those near Sundre include Riverside RV and Greenwood Campground, while along the Little Red are Water Valley Provincial Park, Westward Ho Campground as well as Red Lodge Provincial Park. Additionally, the County is passing along word that high streamflow advisories also remain in effect for upper portions of the Red Deer River basin.

Residents are encouraged to use caution around local waterways and concerns related to County roads or infrastructure can be passed along via the report-a-problem service on the Mountain View County website.

An Environment Canada rainfall warning was in effect across Alberta on Sunday.
