Making a big splash: Community members eager to dive back in at modernized aquatic centre

The community was excited to get back into the pool this week.

The Innisfail Aquatic Centre was closed for nine months while a much needed modernization project was completed.

Mayor Jean Barclay notes that they had a few members of the Dolphins swim club dive off of the blocks during the grand opening on Monday, April 20th. She says “it is not just about fitness, it is also about community connections. It was great to see the kids back together. I’ve heard from people that are back at aqua-fit classes, they’re back at lane swimming and it is really about a lot of things and I know people missed going there a lot. Thank you Olds because I believe there was a lot of Innisfail people that used the Aquatic Centre in Olds over the winter months but people are pretty happy to be back.”

A modified drop-in schedule will be in place at the Innisfail Aquatic Centre until April 30th and then mid-May is when regularly scheduled classes are expected to begin.

The facility originally opened and had not received significant mechanical or structural upgrades until now. In 2025, the Town of Innisfail budgeted just under $15 million dollars for it and the final cost will be finalized later this year.
