Forward Jake McDonald (2008) from Edmonton broke a 2-all tie in the third period and the Olds Grizzlys went on to a 4-2 AJHL preseason win over the Calgary Canucks on Wednesday, September 9th.
Three other forwards scored for the home team including Finn Bagley (2008) from Airdrie, Calder Hutt (2008) from Calgary, and Nikita Kulikov (2006) from Krivoy Rog, Ukraine also tallied for Olds while Ryan Burroughs (2006) from Burford, Ontario made 36 stops in net.
In exhibition play the Grizzlys are now 2-3-0-0. They rallied past the Canucks (1-1-0-0) after falling behind 1-0 in the first period and 2-1 in the second.
They’ll host another preseason game on Friday at 7pm when the Devon Xtreme come to town and tickets are available online at tickets.oldsgrizzlys.ca.
The 7-game slate of Alberta Junior Hockey League exhibition tune ups for Olds will finish up with a rematch against the Canucks on Sunday, September 13th in Calgary at 5pm.
The Black & Gold begin the 2026-2027 regular season at home on Friday, September 18th versus the Drayton Valley Thunder.
