The schedule for the upcoming Alberta Junior Hockey League season has been unveiled.
The pre-season for four teams – including the Olds Grizzlys – will include international competition against Korea University. Olds will host Korea on September 2nd at the Sportsplex. The Black & Gold go to Calgary for the pre-season finale on September 13th.
After playing a total of seven exhibition tune ups, the Grizzlys will drop the puck to begin the 2026-2027 regular season at home on September 18th versus Drayton Valley. The OGs will travel to Canmore to meet the defending AJHL Inter Pipeline Cup Champions – the Eagles – for their first road game of the year on September 22nd.
Olds has a season long six-game homestand that stretches through the holidays from December 17th versus Grande Prairie through January 9th against Camrose. The longest road trip of the season will be a six-game trek from January 17th at Camrose through February 6th at Fort McMurray. The Grizzlys will visit the Drumheller Dragons on Family Day, February 15th. The final regular season game will be at home on March 7th when Olds hosts Drumheller.
The 2026-2027 campaign is the 63rd season for the AJHL. It is a 54-game schedule with teams playing six games against their division foes and four versus teams in the opposite division. As for the new playoff format, the North and South Division will be moved to 1-to-10 overall seeding. The clubs that finish 7th through 10th will clash in best-of-five play-in matchups (7 vs 10, 8 vs 9). The top six overall teams will earn a first round bye.
After the play-in round, the eight teams left will be reshuffled 1-to-8 with the North and South Division regular season champions as the top two seeds. The playoff battles from that round onward will be best-of-seven affairs.
One last note is the return of the All-Star game for the first time since the North beat the South 14-9 in Fort McMurray in 2010. According to the league, it will return in January of 2027 but the host community and further details won’t be publicly revealed until the fall.
