The Men’s Shed Olds is inviting everyone to come out to a community appreciation event and official opening of their location at 4825 51st Street.
According to President Morley Kjargaard, they’ll be serving up hot dogs and hamburgers from 4pm until 7 o’clock on Thursday (September 17th).
He points out that this is like a two year anniversary from when they first met and asked if there was anyone interested in joining their organization. Kjargaard says “I guess our reason for existing is to create a social outing for men in the community and we will do that in a variety of ways. The reality is, guys have time on their hands when they retire and so that’s – I would say – 80-90 per cent of our membership is made up of retirees but we have had – and do have – high school students and young guys. It is just anybody looking for a social outing, really.”
Kjargaard adds, about 100 members have joined the Men’s Shed Olds so far and that has exceeded their wildest expectations.
