Olds council hears project update from Synapse Data Center Inc.

Mayor Dan Daley says Jason van Gaal, Founder and CEO of Synapse, provided a snap shot of some of the processes and plans for the project going forward during the Town of Olds council meeting on Monday, February 23rd.

Mayor Dan Daley asked Jason van Gaal about the construction phase of the proposed project – if it is approved – and how it would affect citizens of the Town of Olds. Daley says “again, no decisions have been made at this point, but this would be something that would come back from Alberta Transportation as far was how they are going to make access into the site, and so forth. It’s in their hands right now, if they are going to have an access off Highway 2-A or whether they are going to have an access off (Highway) 27.” He notes “that is all going to be decided into the future and with that, he is going to ask, Jason van Gaal is going to ask, if Alberta Transportation has a preference on which direction that the materials and traffic flows on? So that we can have that going forward so people know what to expect.”

Mayor Daley stressed that they are in very preliminary stages of the planning process and a lot of it is in the hands of the provincial government when it comes to looking at the use of natural gas, noise, lighting, and so forth. The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), and Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) are among the provincial entities involved in the process.
