Feasibility study starts journey towards expanded rural transit opportunities in Olds

Olds council accepted a Rural Transit Feasibility Study for information at this week’s meeting.

According to Mayor Dan Daley, a lot of public input was collected for it and there was a lot of public consultation that took place.

He notes that in the recommendations from the study, one of the first steps to move forward would be to enhance the rider eligibility for the Sunshine Bus. Mayor Daley says “with that was recommending that we go to an app for scheduling pick ups and drop offs. Then actually look at a different bus that can handle not only people with mobility issues but also seats on the bus for people to ride on and open it up to the whole population.” He points out that doing that would open up opportunities for more people to get some sort of transportation in Olds.

Mayor Daley adds, the Town has applied for a couple different grants to help move it forward. However, right now it is something that hasn’t been budgeted for so it will be looked at more in the future.
