Innisfail RCMP 29th annual Charity Checkstop is set for Saturday

Innisfail RCMP are getting set for the 29th Annual Charity Checkstop, a long-running tradition that continues to support families in the community.

The Checkstop will run Saturday on main street outside of the Legion and is in support of 3 separate charities this year, as outlined by Staff Sargent Ian Ihme.

“This year’s Charity Checkstop will support three local organizations: the Innisfail Food Bank, the Innisfail Christmas Bureau, and the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Center. The event takes place on December 6th in Innisfail, running from 10 am to 3 pm right on Main Street.”

Last year’s Checkstop raised $16,500, which was all donated directly to local charities.

Officers and volunteers will be collecting donations from both eastbound and westbound traffic, and drivers who choose not to donate can simply pass through.

The Checkstop is accepting new clothing, food, toys, and cash donations.

Ihme says it’s an annual event that he looks forward to very much.

“You know what, I get excited about it every year. The Charity Checkstop is really the kickoff to the Christmas season for Innisfail, and it’s such a great event. We see so many people come out, and even in those years when the weather has been horribly cold and bitter, the community still shows up and donates generously. It’s just a fantastic way to start the Christmas season.”

The Innisfail RCMP’s 29th annual Charity Checkstop runs from 10 until 3 on Saturday.
