Plenty of Seniors’ Week activities still to come in Didsbury, Olds and Sundre

This is the 40th anniversary of Seniors’ Week in Alberta.

Community Facilitator Trina Radcliffe with the Town of Olds says there is a growing seniors population in our community. Racliffe says “they do so much from volunteering and helping out, and being involved with community events and so, I think it is always one of our favourite times of year to be able to provide opportunities for our seniors during Seniors’ Week.” Seniors’ Week activities in Olds will include a free pancake breakfast at the Evergreen Centre on Friday, June 5th from 9am until 10:30

Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre MLA Jason Nixon spent 2023 until 2026 as the province’s Minister of Seniors/Assisted Living and Social Serivces. Nixon says “I’m very proud of the work that we did to be able to stabilize health care and the health care system for our seniors, but also to continue to work with communities all across the province to create an environment that made sure that not only were we the best place to live and work in, here in Alberta and raise a family in but also one of the best places in the county to retire in.” Nixon adds, it is great to celebrate our parents and grand parents, and those who built this great province from June 1st through June 7th. A provincial cabinet shuffle last month moved Nixon to President of the Treasury Board and Alberta’s Minister of Finance for the second time in his career.

While Seniors’ Week is winding down there is still plenty of fun to be had. Jane Atkins with the Sundre Senior SPRUCE Society says they have a Seniors Aging Well Fair coming up on Saturday, June 6th from 9am unti 3pm at the Sundre Community Centre. Atkins says “which is open to the entire community with speakers, vendors and exhibitors.”  She adds, SPRUCE stands for Seniors Protected and Respected Under Community Engagement.

Meantime, the Didsbury Museum invites seniors to come out from 10am until 2pm on Saturday to join them for Crib and Board Games, along with coffee and muffins.
