Drop the puck: Grizzlys start AJHL regular season with trip to D.V., home date vs Camrose

Hockey season is here!

The Olds Grizzlys board the bus today and their destination is Drayton Valley for the first game of the 2025-2026 AJHL regular season.

Kevin Watson, Manager of Business Operations for the Grizzlys, points out that the Black & Gold will then return to the SportsComplex for the Olds Home Hardware Home Opener on Saturday night. He says “tail gate party starts at 4:00. We’ve got Foul Play band, they are out of Red Deer, so that will be our musical guest. We’ve got Uptowne Olds bringing the BBQ. They are going to cook up some free hot dogs that are supplied by Patryk’s No Frills. So it should be lots of fun. It is going to be a beautiful day, this great extended summer we are having but hockey season is going to start and it is going to be a good kick off to the season.”

He encourages everyone to get there early. Watson says “first 100 people through the doors get a free t-shirt when they buy their ticket, first 500 will get rally towels, we’ve got free stickers, free tattoos, fridge magnets this season are back, progressive 50/50. We’ve been having that all preseason long so it is close to $1,500 right now. Hopefully it will be close to $3,000 by the end of the second period on Saturday night.”

The home opener is set for 7pm on Saturday and it will be the first Battle of the Bears of the new Alberta Junior Hockey League season as the Grizzlys will take on the Camrose Kodiaks. Watson says “every game this year, the concession is doing up a special. This Saturday it is the ‘Battle of the Bears Sundae’ and it is only $2. So who doesn’t like ice cream?” Get tickets online at Tickets.OldsGrizzlys.ca.
