Sensational goaltending performance helps Olds hault losing streak

The Olds Grizzlys got back into the win column over the weekend thanks in large part to their 21-year-old goalie.

The Black & Gold are just 2-16-and-1 in their last 19 games, but both victories have come at the expense of the Camrose Kodiaks (29-14-2-5).

Olds defeated the Kodiaks 3-2 in a shootout at the SportsComplex on January 21st.

The Grizzlys (15-34-1) then lost 12 straight games. However on Saturday night in Camrose, Ben Dardis (2004) from Minnesota made an AJHL career high 61 saves as Olds shutout the Kodiaks 1-0 at the Encana Arena.

Dardis now has 3 shutouts this season, which is the most by a Grizzly since Marc Boulanger (1990) posted 5 in the 2009-2010 season. Dardis was named the Most Valuable Player for this season when the Olds Grizzlys handed out the hardware at their annual awards banquet on February 22nd.

Olds has just 4 games remaining this season and the local club has been eliminated from Alberta Junior Hockey League playoff contention.

The Grizzlys will visit the Thunder (21-22-4-3) on Friday in Drayton Valley.

The final home game of the season for Olds is set for March 14th against the Canmore Eagles (34-11-5-1).
