Mountain View Colts playoff run gets started on Saturday

The Mountain View Colts will kick off their Heritage Junior Hockey League post season campaign on Saturday night, when they travel to Red Deer to kick off a best of 5 series with the Vipers.

Mountain View wrapped up their regular season schedule with a record of 19-17-2 and 40 points. The Colts finished 3rd in the Northern Division standings, 1 point back of 2nd place Red Deer. Both teams finished well back of the 1st place Sylvan Lake Wranglers, who had a total of 64 points with a record of 34-3-1.

The Colts came out of the gates with a record of 3-7 through their opening 10 games, until Nicholas Smith joined the squad and took over the Mountain View crease. Smith joined the Colts on October 17th and has a record of 13-7-1 including 4 shut outs since then.

Red Deer won the season series against Mountain View 3 games to 1, including 2 recent wins on January 25th by a score of 5-4 and a 4-2 victory on January 31st.

The Colts and Vipers will kick off round 2 of the HJHL playoffs, as round 1 featured a best of 3 game play in series on both the Northern and Southern sides of the bracket. The Airdrie Thunder defeated the Three Hills Thrashers in 2 games to earn a matchup with the Sylvan Lake Wranglers, while Cochrane Generals got by the Coaldale Copperheads in the Southern Division play in. Cochrane will now battle the Okotoks Bisons, while the other Southern series will see Medicine Hat take on Wheatland.

Game #1 of the Mountain View Colts and Red Deer Vipers post season matchup will come on Saturday night at 8PM from Servus Arena in Red Deer. Game #2 is scheduled for Monday night at 8:45PM in Three Hills before the series turns back up the QE2 for game 3 on February 26th.
