Ice, Ice, Baby: Didsbury’s main arena ice surface being reinstalled this season

The main arena ice surface at the Didsbury Memorial Complex is going to be reinstalled for this season.
According to a media release, Didsbury council has approved a contract that will see the Town move forward with installing a rental unit which will allow ice on the main surface at the DMC to go back in. The ice had been removed for both arena surfaces and the curling rink at the end of December following the discovery of an ammonia leak in the condenser.
Mayor Rhonda Hunter points out their intent is to have it prepared by the end of January, or February 1st at the latest. It will just be the main ice surface going in. She states that the leisure ice and the curling rink ice, unfortunately, won’t be part of that but that has more to do with the power capacity at the Memorial Complex. She says “the fact that we can get one ice surface going was good news for us and we are happy to be able to do that because it will accommodate a lot of groups, other than curling. We are happy that curling has found a home for the winter as well.”
She adds, they approved the main ice restoration proposal at a special council meeting on Monday. Mayor Hunter looks forward to welcoming back the user groups at the Town’s facility.
She notes that the community will continue to be updated on the latest information by the Town of Didsbury as it becomes available.
