Mounties are reminding everyone to never operate a motorized vehicle, including boats and off-highway vehicles, if you are impaired due to drugs or alcohol.
Mother’s Against Drunk Driving Canada notes that on average in this country, one in every four fatal collisions involves an impaired driver.
For those who are celebrating on Canada Day, Alberta RCMP say to plan to have a safe ride home by calling a taxi or rideshare service, use a designated driver, or have a safe place to stay the night.
Police add, drivers who refuse to provide a breath sample can be criminally charged.
Those individuals who have a Graduated Driver’s Licence must abide by the zero-tolerance law, according to Alberta RCMP.
Sergeant Darrin Turnbull with Alberta RCMP Traffic says “everyone should be able to make it home safely this holiday. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 911.”
