U18 Grizzlys riding high after provincial victory on northern trip

Three Olds Minor Hockey teams were competing for provincial banners during the second weekend of Hockey Alberta’s most exciting time of the year.

In High Prairie, the Grizzlys won the U18 B provincial gold medal by beating Bow Valley 5-2 in the final. Hunter McDonald had a hat trick in that one for Olds, while Ryan Heer made 39 saves.

The Grizzlys went 4 and 1 overall and they were led in points by Evan Ellis with 10 and in goals by Hayden Webb with 7.

Meanwhile, the Olds Junior Broncos hosted the U15 Female B provincials where they went 3 and oh in the preliminary round before falling 4-3 to Fort Saskatchewan in the semi-finals. The 3 C’s from Consort won the provincial banner at the Olds Sportsplex.

And the U11 AA Grizzlys boys posted a record of 1-1-1 in Brooks which left them out of the playoff round. That tourney was won by the Three Rivers Athletic Club from Whitecourt.
