Handful of local skaters heading to Red Deer for Hockey Alberta’s spring showcase events

Hockey Alberta announced the rosters for a couple of upcoming spring showcase events earlier this month and a few local skaters have received invites to represent this region.

Six teams and a total of 120 athletes will participate at the 2025 Alberta Cup from April 23rd through the 27th. Forward Noah Ulry from Olds and defenceman Reed Howell from Penhold have been named to Team Alberta Black, while forward Jaxon Jaffray from Olds has been named to Team Alberta Blue. This year’s Alberta Cup is one more chance for players born in 2010 to try and impress the scouts ahead of the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft. It is set for May 7th.

Meanwhile, female athletes born in 2010 and 2011 will hit the ice for the Alberta Challenge from May 1st to the 4th. Among the six teams and 120 total players named to the tournament are a handful of locals. Blueliner Kendall Hammer from Olds has been named to Team South Black, while Team South Grey will include forward Sierra Sandilands from Carstairs plus defenders Alena McEvoy from Carstairs and Ella Latimer from Olds.

All of Hockey Alberta’s spring showcase events will be held at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre in Red Deer.

Rosters for the Prospects Cup have yet to be announced. It will feature male skaters born in 2012 and it will run from May 7th to the 11th. Regional camps for Team South Gold and Team South Black will be held in Olds from today through Sunday.
