Olds council adopts 5-year RCMP Resourcing & Priorities Plan

The Town of Olds has been looking at the RCMP long-term plan for a couple of years now.

That is according to Mayor Dan Daley who points out that the 5-year plan talked about requesting another officer for the Olds RCMP detachment. He says “this is a process that takes about a year in advance. So you have to apply for the position and then it takes about a year to get somebody in place after that and so coming up here in the next budget cycle, we will be budgeting for another RCMP officer for the Town of Olds.”

Daley says the Town’s budget for this year included an allocation for another public servant employee for the Olds RCMP to help remove some of the administrative work off of the officers, so they can do more of the actual policing.

The 5-year plan was approved as presented at the regular council meeting on Monday, February 23rd. It utilized input from the RCMP plus a 2025 report, and the 2023 Community Policing Study when it comes to topics including capacity, support, costs, and community engagement.
