A Mountain View County resident faces charges following an investigation into stolen property by Olds RCMP.
Mounties say new information was obtained on April 16th regarding the stolen property which was located at a residence in the County.
According to Olds RCMP, a search warrant was executed and it yielded items including untaxed tobacco valued at nearly $7,000 (38 cartons and 9 packs), over $50,000 in Canadian currency, two unregistered firearms, plus stolen vehicles and vehicle parts valued between $123,000 and $234,000. Also seized were vehicle documents for a stolen vehicle, a stolen British Columbia licence plate, 22 rounds of ammunition, a money order, fraudulent VIN and manufacturer labels, as well as registration and insurance for a cloned VIN associated to a Ford F-450.
The accused is a 63-year-old man and the charges include possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession contrary to an order, failure to comply with an undertaking, possession for the purpose of selling tobacco products, and possession of unstamped tobacco products. The last two charges fall under the Excise Act. After being remanded into custody, he is slated to appear in court in Didsbury this week.
Assistance from the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, Alberta Emergency Response Team, and the Alberta RCMP Auto Theft Unit was received by Olds RCMP during the investigation. Staff Sergeant Jamie Day, Detachment Commander with the Olds RCMP, says “this investigation reflects the strong collaboration between Olds RCMP and our specialized units in targeting property crime and related criminal activity. The results demonstrate our ongoing commitment to proactive enforcement and keeping our communities safe.”
