The season has come to an end for the Mountain View Colts.
The Colts were eliminated Sunday night in a decisive Game 5, falling to the Sylvan Lake Wranglers to close out their playoff run.
Mountain View forced Game 5 with a strong 3–0 shutout victory Saturday in Sylvan Lake, bouncing back after a heartbreaking 6–5 overtime loss Friday night in Didsbury that put them on the brink of elimination.
Ryder Hammer opened the scoring in Game 5 with his fifth goal of the postseason to give the Colts an early lead. But Owen Callow responded just 12 seconds later to even things up heading into the second period.
The Wranglers took control from there. Goals from Maddex Bignell and Karson Ledieu gave Sylvan Lake the advantage, and Brendan Harnack extended the lead early in the third. Tyler Giori pulled one back for Mountain View to try and spark a comeback, but it wouldn’t be enough.
Kaden Toussaint made 30 saves in what was his final Heritage Junior Hockey League game, while Brock Lott earned the win with 35 stops for Sylvan Lake.
With the victory, the Wranglers advance to the Northern Division Final, where the Red Deer Vipers await after eliminating the Airdrie Thunder in four games.
The Colts will now turn their attention to their annual awards banquet, set to take place in the coming weeks.
