Long and winding road: Grizzlys begin longest trek away from home of 2025-2026 season

More than a full calendar month will pass between home games for the Black & Gold as the current Alberta Junior Hockey League campaign rolls on.

The Olds Grizzlys lost 5-4 to the visiting Camrose Kodiaks on a last minute goal in the third period on Sunday, January 11th. They will have to wait until Friday, February 13th when the Bonnyville Pontiacs come to town for another chance to win at the Sportsplex.

The longest road trip of the year for the Grizzlys – 8 games – started with a stop in Fort McMurray. Forward Jordan St. Louis (2009) from Airdrie had his team leading 13th goal of the season but Olds fell 5-1 on Friday, January 16th to the Oil Barons (21-12-5-1). The next night at Centrefire Place in Fort Mac, the Grizzlys got a pair of goals from blueliners in a 3-2 defeat. Brody Martin (2007) from Prince George, B.C. and Owen Hutzul (2006) from Edmonton both netted their 4th goals of the season. Martin also had an assist and forward David Hoy (2007) from Fort St. John, B.C. chipped in with two helpers. Hoy is third on the team with 15 assists this season, while Martin is second with 17.

Olds (10-25-2-1) is designated as the road team for the opening game of the AJHL’s 2026 Showcase at the Marchant Crane Centrium in Red Deer on Monday, January 19th at 4pm versus the Lloydminster Bobcats (21-11-2-2). The Grizzlsy have slipped to the bottom of the overall standings. As the 6th place team in the South Division, they are 14 points back of the 4th and final playoff spot which is currently occupied by the Calgary Canucks (18-15-1-0). The Bobcats are 4th in the North Division.
