Read all about it: B.S. Productions bringing Disney’s Newsies to Sundre in February

This is the 10th season that B.S. Productions has been entertaining the community with musical theatre at the Sundre Arts Centre.

Next month they will be performing the Broadway musical Newsies. Jamie Syer with B.S. Productions points out that they have a local cast which ranges in age from 7 to 73, plus they will have a 7-piece orchestra on stage to provide the soundtrack. He says “not just from Sundre though, we’ve got folks from Olds, we’ve got folks from Rocky, from Innisfail, Red Deer, some of our musicians come from Calgary. So it is a real neighbourhood. Some of these folks have been in our shows before but there are always a lot of new people. So we are drawing from a wide area now and we are delighted about that.”

They will have eight performances of Newsies between February 13th and the 22nd. Syer says “the story itself is so touching. It’s based on a historical event, when the news sellers on the streets of New York went on strike against Joseph Pulitzer. This was in 1899. It was an actual event. The basis of the story is that these young people discover that they’ve actually got more control over their lives than they expected.”

Tickets are available online, or you can pick them up at the Sundre Municipal Library or at Backwoods Bakery & Cafe.
