Volunteers in the Town of Olds are being celebrated this month with three special awards.
On the heels of National Volunteer Week, Community Facilitator Trina Radcliff with the Community Connections Centre says Mateya Sept with the Ecole Olds High School Leadership Program is the nominee for the Youth Volunteer of the Year.
The Citizen Volunteer of the Year nominees are Levi Ogilvie with Olds Minor Hockey, Shannon Powell with Mountain View Moccasin House, Joe Berreth with Olds Minor Lacrosse, and Katie Dun with Hope For MVC Kids.
According to Radcliffe, the Senior Volunteer of the Year was their hot category with six nominees. She says “Linda Reade with IODE, Evergreen Seniors Centre and Girl Guides, Ben Jensen with Special Olympics Olds & District, Greg Wiens with Olds and Area Pregnancy Support Centre, Sieka Boom with the Olds & District Evergreen Centre, Jack Fewster with Kiwanis Club of Olds, and Sandra Hanson with the Mountain View Special Riding Association.”
The winners will be announced on Monday. Radcliffe points out that 18 organizations applied for the Town’s micro grants to hold their own volunteer celebration events this year. She says “I think it just says how amazing our community is across the board. Whether it is the seniors or youth programming or community and family programming our community is run through volunteers. We see such a wide variety in nominees and organizations right through from our volunteer of the years, through our micro grants. So we were really excited to see all the groups come on board this year.”
