For the next three days, École Olds High School students will be playing the role of welcoming hosts for their peers.
15-year-old Grade 10 student Mukulu Shamuu is excited to open their doors to over 600 guests as part of the 2026 Alberta Student Leadership Conference. He says “I know there will be lots of fun activities. There will be multiple speakers that are coming like Ian Tyson, Chris Gray, and Kwesi Millington. So I’m super excited for that and then just different things planned throughout the day. On Saturday night we’ll be having a dance – a beach bash dance – and so we’re going to be having so much fun at the Sportsplex and so I’m just super excited for all of it to happen.”
18-year-old Grade 12 student Andre Bombasi is part of the EOHS Steering Committee. He says “really I’m expecting excitement. I’m a little nervous but most of all I’m looking forward to be seeing a bunch of the student bodies across Alberta to meet and really set our differences aside and work together as a leadership community.”
15-year-old Grade 10 student Cadence Witcher feels that being part of the group planning the conference has already been very helpful for learning life management skills. She says “there will be problems no matter what and so it is very important that you learn on how to overcome them. Just with different with organizational skills, I believe it is very important to learn how to deal with that. I believe this conference has helped us learn to manage those.”
Students at ASLC 2026 will also participate in interactive workshops and collaborative leadership activities from May 1-3 during the conference. Learn more on the EOHS Facebook page.
