The Mountain View Colts were in action just once this past weekend, as the Heritage Junior Hockey League schedule enters October.
The Colts welcomed the Medicine Hat Cubs to the Didsbury Memorial Complex on Saturday night, in a battle of teams sitting in 4th place of their respective divisions.
Mountain View entered the game at (2-2) after picking up a 5-1 rod win a week ago in Okotoks.
The Colts started the game well, with goals from Ryder Hammer and Spencer McMillin to put the home side up 2-0. However, penalty troubles late in the period would allow the Cubs to capitalize as Mason Osinski finished off a beautiful passing play to cut the lead to 2-1.
A penalty shot goal form Kyle Woolridge would tie things up for the Cubs early in the 2nd, before the Colts regained the lead thanks to Cameron Jaster’s first goal in the HJHL.
Medicine Hat would capitalize on another power play late in the period to make it a 3-3 game heading into the 3rd, Jacob Hazzard was credited with his first of the season on the goal.
Spencer McMillin would fire home his second of the game to put the Colts ahead once more, but with 51 seconds to play it was Kyle Woolridge who would find a way to tie the game a 4 and send things off to overtime at the DMC.
Fans wouldn’t get much OT action though, as Joseph Kurkowski called game, stealing the puck from the Cubs’ defenders and burying a backhand deke.
The Colts’ rookie was happy to score a big time goal.
Prior to tonight’s game, head coach Ron Doig spoke to 96.5 The Ranch.
The Colts will now hit the road for 3 straight games before returning home on October 18th to battle the Airdrie Thunder at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
