The Mountain View Colts were in action on Friday night as part of Heritage Junior Hockey League play.
The defending HJHL champion Sylvan Lake Wranglers paid their first visit of the season to the Didsbury Memorial Complex for a Northern Division showdown.
The Wranglers were dominant in 2024/2025 with a record of 34-3-1 on route to their first title since moving to Sylvan Lake.
The game was tightly contested with only 1 goal through 40 minutes, Ethan Clark’s first of the season would put the Wranglers ahead heading into the 3rd period.
That would be where Sylvan Lake would pull ahead, thanks to insurance goals from Avery Henry and Parker Harrison to seal a 3-0 Wranglers win over the Colts.
Former Colt Brock Lott stopped all 34 shots he faced to earn his 2nd career shutout. Colin MacDougall made his second consecutive start, putting up 46 saves in the loss.
Tonight marks the first time the Colts lost a game on Didsbury Memorial Complex ice since December of last season, when they were forced out of their home arena due to ice plant struggles. Mountain View was 3-0 this pre season at home, and had won their previous home game 5-0 vs Ponoka last weekend.
Prior to tonight’s game, Colts head coach Ron Doig spoke to 96.5 The Ranch.
The Colts will now hit the road to battle the Okotoks Bisons tomorrow night, before returning home next Saturday to welcome the Medicine Hat cubs.
You can hear all of the Colts home games this season on 96.5 The Ranch with play by play host Bernd Van’t Klooster.
