Grizzlys finish AJHL preseason with South Division’s top winning percentage

The Olds Grizzlys wrapped up the Alberta Junior Hockey League preseason with a 7-3 victory over the visiting Drumheller Dragons on Saturday, September 13th.

Winger Dexter Materi (2007) from B.C. led the way offensively by netting a hat trick versus the Dragons, while centre Sam Giangualano (2006) from Calgary chimed in with four assists. Netminder Connor Johnson (2006) from Calgary made 48 saves.

The Black & Gold went 4-1-0 during exhibition play and they were 3-0-0 on home ice. Grizzlys Head Coach Tyson Soloski points out that their roster will still have some moving parts to it as the start of the regular season approaches. He says “I think there are so many moving parts within this league with like guys coming back from everywhere but like for us we’ve been really happy with our group and we want to kind of stay loyal to this group that have put in a ton of hard work to be here. So, yeah, realistically we are probably looking in the next week to finalize what we want in our roster which is about 14 forwards, 7 D, and 2 goalies. You never know though, we are probably give ourselves a little bit of leeway and potentially hold off on a couple of things until the end of the month here.”

Olds starts the 2025-2026 regular season this Friday, September 19th in Drayton Valley before returning to the SportsComplex for the home opener on Saturday, September 20th at 7 o’clock against the Camrose Kodiaks.
