The Olds Grizzlys have busted out of the gates to begin the AJHL preseason by stacking three straight wins together.
The Black & Gold beat the Fort McMurray Oil Barons 4-1 on Thursday during a penalty filled game at the SportsComplex to improve to 3-0. The Oil Barons drop to 0-2.
It is the second straight game that Olds outscored its opponent three to nothing in the third period. The Grizzlys also did that on Sunday at home as they defeated the Calgary Canucks 6-2.
As Assistant Coach Mitch Visser explains, one interesting technical upgrade for the Grizzlys this season is the use of iPads on the bench to watch previous plays and help make rapid in game adjustments. He says “I’m kind of in charge of the iPad right now. Just kind of giving feedback to the boys, live feedback. I kind of wish I had that when I was playing because it does wonders, right? You get that instant feedback. So it is great.” He discusses what the players reaction has been to their new ability to show video and give instant feedback. Visser says “yeah they love it, right? Technology is everywhere nowadays and it helps in all sorts of ways. It is helping the game of hockey. Small Town Olds and it is awesome. I love it.”
The Grizzlys have this weekend off. They will finish up the preseason with a trip to Drumheller on September 12th and then a home game versus the Dragons on September 13th.
