Alberta is putting $2 million into the province’s next generation of innovators with the Innovation Catalyst Grant. The grant is designed to support recent graduates in science, tech, engineering, and math—helping them turn their ideas into real businesses.
Recipients will get $250,000 over two years to develop and commercialize new products and services.
In a news release from the province on Monday, Nate Glubish, Alberta’s Minister of Technology and Innovation, says, “This grant helps new grads turn their ideas into small businesses that create jobs and strengthen Alberta’s economy. It’s a great time to be in Alberta’s tech scene, and this program is a big part of that.”
Along with the funding, recipients get lab space for research and mentorship to help grow their businesses.
The grant is administered by the University of Alberta, University of Calgary and University of Lethbridge, with participation and oversight by the Ministry of Technology and Innovation.
The program’s first cohort, which received funding in 2023, has already created 58 jobs and raised an additional $6 million in investment.
Applications for the 2026 intake of the Innovation Catalyst Grant are open until September 1st.
