Motor vehicle collision near Kathryn results in multiple fatalities

Two lives were lost this week as a result of a serious motor vehicle collision in Rocky View County.

It happened near the hamlet of Kathryn on Highway 566 and Highway 9 at about 10pm on Wednesday, September 17th.

According to Airdrie Rural RCMP, a Dodge Ram pick up truck “heading north bound struck a semi truck heading south bound on Highway 9” and as a result of the collision, the pick up truck caught on fire.

Declared deceased at the scene were the 36-year-old female driver of the Dodge Ram and an 18-month-old female passenger. The driver was from Hanna, Alberta. Two more children in the vehicle were taken to a Calgary hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Police say the driver of the semi truck was not injured.

Mounties are still investigating the cause of the incident and condolences are being extended to the family and friends of everyone involved in this tragic incident.
