A swimmer from Olds has brought back a boatload of medals from the recently completed Special Olympics Nationals.
Teena Trick-Wilks – Swimming Head Coach with Special Olympics Olds & District – notes that Wesley Wilks did very well in Medicine Hat. Trick-Wilks says Trick-Wilks says “he received 3 goal medals, and 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. Oh, he did outstanding and really showed Olds colours well. He has been training hard and working as hard as he can to do well at the competition, that’s for sure.”
At the Big Marble Go Centre, Wilks won gold in 800M freestyle (Division 2), 1,500M freestyle (Division 2) and was part of the winning 4x50M freestyle relay squad (Division 3). He gathered up silver in 200M breaststroke (Division 4) and 200M butterfly along (Division 2) with bronze in the 4×50 medley relay (Division 4) and 200m backstroke (Division 5).
Trick-Wilks adds, they probably won’t know whether Wesley has qualified for Worlds until about October. The Special Olympics World Games take place every two years and the next one is in Santiago, Chile in October of 2027.
