As heard on 96.5 The Ranch, after 10 days of competition Chanse Vigen walked away with the ultimate prize – the 2025 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby title.
Vigen, who was running the VisitLethbridge.com tarp, not only won the championship dash but had the fastest running time of all races on the tenth night of racing with a 1:11.24.
The 41-year-old from Calgary says the win is not just representative of one show but of years of work. He says “really proud of the horses. I feel like they could have done it off any barrel and we ended up on three. I’m just so proud of them. I can’t tell you how.. the horses are the real athletes of this sport. I think we all know that and, it’s hard.. I’m just a proud guy.” Sharing the victory with Vigen are outriders Rory Gervais, Ethan Motowylo, and Trey MacGillivray. Vigen listed winning the Rangeland Derby for the first time in his career as one of his goals for 2025 when speaking with The Ranch before the start of the season.
2024 and 2013 Calgary Stampede Champion Jason Glass from High River in his Birchcliff Energy Ltd outfit placed second with a 1:12.51. Jamie Laboucane from St. Walburg, Saskatchewan was in the Dash for Cash at the Calgary Stampede for the first time in his career.
