Logan Gorst wins in Ponoka after Chanse Vigen runs into penalty trouble

As heard on 96.5 The Ranch, Chanse Vigen raced around the track and seemed like he took home the cash at the Ponoka Stampede on Tuesday, July 1st.

However, the 41-year-old from Calgary was assessed a one second penalty for his wagon starting ahead of the horn. As a result, Logan Gorst was able to earn the first Ponoka Stampede championship of his career with a penalty free time of 1:12.18.

With the penalty, Vigen fell back to second with a 1:12.93, Evan Salmond was third with a 1:14.17 and Jamie Laboucane ended up fourth with some penalty trouble and a 1:14.56.

The 43-year-old Gorst is from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan and the 1:12.18 in his Benchmark Commodities Ltd. outfit also stood up as fastest time of the night on the last day of competition in Ponoka.

Up next is the prestigious Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby. It kicks off on Friday (July 4th) and continues until the 2025 champion is crowned on Sunday, July 13th.

96.5 The Ranch is the radio broadcast home of the 2025 WPCA Pro Tour and that includes all 10 days of chuckwagon racing at the Calgary Stampede.
