Winter storm creates havoc on Alberta roadways

Alberta RCMP responded to nearly 150 collisions across the province as driving was made treacherous by winter weather accompanied by high winds.

Those collisions occurred between noon yesterday (January 16th) and 8am this morning (January 17th).

In the Central Alberta District, police reported nearly half of those collisions with a total of 71. Three involved injuries, and 68 included property damage.

Mounties expect the number to grow over the next few days as reports will continue to come in to various detachments.

Alberta RCMP are stressing to the public that when it is advised not to travel, please take this advice – not only for your own safety but the safety of others as well including all first responders.
