Third period lead slips away as Grizzlys fall to first place Storm

As heard on 96.5 CKFM, the Olds Grizzlys went toe to toe with the top team this season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League on Saturday night.

The Black & Gold held leads of 1 to nothing and 2-1, but in the end the Grande Prairie Storm would score twice in the third period to escape from the SportsComplex with a 3-2 victory on November 2nd.

Grande Prairie improves to an AJHL best 13-1-1-1, while Olds drops to 7-8-0-0.

Alternate Captain Junshi Hideshima (2005) from Edmonton opened the scoring in the game for the Grizzlys in the second period.

Forward Antonio Bevacqua (2006) from Langley, B.C. made it 2-1 for the home team late in the second period.

Grizzlys goaltender Connor Johnson (2006) from Calgary returned from injury was back in the net for the first time in over a month. He made 27 saves on 30 shots.

The Storm converted a power play into the tying goal 2:43 into the third period before notching an even strength tally at 17:40 which stood up as the game winning goal.

G.P also won in Olds on Friday, November 1st. The Storm took the opener of the two game weekend set 5-2. Grande Prairie winds up sweeping the four game season series with the Grizzlys (4-0).

Olds will host the Whitecourt Wolverines (12-3-0-1) on Tuesday, November 5th at 7pm.

96.5 CKFM had this conversation with Grizzlys forward Nolan Viesner (2005) from Kamloops, B.C. – who is nearing a return from injury – during the first intermission of Saturday’s game.

CKFM also caught up prior to the game with Assistant Coach Brandon Wells from the Grande Prairie Storm.
