Captain Connor Seeley comes up clutch in OT, winning streak for Olds continues

As heard on 96.5 CKFM, Captain Connor Seeley’s last second dash up the ice led to another extra time victory for the Olds Grizzlys.

The big forward from West Kelowna, B.C. (2005) had the skate away play on Saturday, October 12th as the Black & Gold outlasted the Drayton Valley Thunder 3-2 in overtime. It is the third straight win for Olds and all three have been earned by playing more than 60 minutes. The Grizzlys topped Camrose 5-4 in a shootout on October 5th and they got past Bonnyville 4-3 in O.T. on October 11th. Seeley has nine points including two goals through 10 games played. He had a pair of goals and 14 points in 46 games in 2023-2024 for the OGs.

After 10 games this season, Olds has a record of 6-4-0-0. Drayton Valley is 4-4-1-1.

The Grizzlys trailed 1-0 following the opening period on Saturday, but rookie forward Braeden Veldhuizen (2006) from Calgary tied the game up at 3:21 of period two.

It was Veldhuizen’s first power play goal of the year and his fifth overall. The Grizzlys have netted a PPG in six consecutive games and they are 9 for 28 during that time.

Forward Bailey Shortall (2005) from Timberlea, Nova Scotia received a gift from the Thunder to light the lamp for the first time as an AJHLer and it put Olds ahead late in the third period.

Shortall has a goal and four assists in 9 games with Olds.

Goaltender Aidan Fischer from North Vancouver, B.C. is now 4-1 since joining his new team in the AJHL. He backstopped the Grizzlys to victory by making 18 saves against Drayton Valley.

A five game Alberta Junior Hockey League homestand will wrap up for the Grizzlys on Friday, October 18th at 7pm against the Whitecourt Wolverines (6-3-0-1) and 96.5 CKFM will have live play-by-play coverage.

96.5 CKFM spoke with Head Coach Brad Tobin prior to Saturday’s game.
