Monday, August 31st is the first day of classes for students in most schools around the region and some tips are being passed along so that everyone receives high marks for traffic safety.
According to Town of Olds Mayor Dan Daley, as we get back into the September routine, there is always a higher volume of traffic on the roads. He says “keep your eyes open for all those students going back to school. There will be lots of excitement in the air and sometimes they are not always watching where they are going. So, we have to be a little proactive in making sure that we keep our children safe.”
Alberta RCMP remind motorists to be patient this week and stay alert – especially when near schools, crosswalks, and buses that are picking up or dropping off students. Government of Alberta officials point out that the penalty for failing to stop for a school bus with flashing red lights is $567 and six demerit points.
