RONA Rookies program builds community connections, sponsors U13A Olds Grizzlys

The third edition of the RONA Rookies program has given an Olds Minor Hockey Association team something to cheer about early in its season.

Garth Dagg, Owner of RONA in Olds, is very excited that Olds would be recognized by Rona in corporate and that they could sponsor a team here in Town. He says “there is some great community people here. Some of the kids on this team, I was a teacher for their Dad’s and know them well. So it is nice now to be part of the community in this way, in support.”

Dagg adds, “so we are sponsoring the U13A team and that team will get, I think everybody on the team – coaches and players – gets a hoodie, and some noisemakers, a hat and some pucks. So a nice package for each kid and then we have some money that they can use towards tournament entry.” Part of the $3,000 sponsorship that each of the teams receives from the program includes a $1,000 grant which can be used to take part in tourneys or fund other team activities.

150 minor hockey teams across the country were selected as part of this season’s RONA Rookies program including 18 in Alberta. The program was launched in 2024 and officials say it ties in with the company’s longtime interest in hockey and its desire to contribute to the vitality of the communities in which it operates. RONA is a home improvement retailer with more than 425 corporate and affiliated stores in Canada.
