This is opening week of the season for the World Professional Chuckwagon Association.
Dale Young from Sundre is one of eight permit drivers who have this week’s stop in Grande Prairie and then next week in Bonnyville to try and earn one of the four full-time spots on the 2026 WPCA Pro Tour. Young says “there is eight very good outfits, so it’s a horse race and we’ll try to stay clean and the horses are in shape and running fast. So as long as I drive like I should and we get some good positioning on the track, we’ve got as good a chance as anybody I think.”
Young knows a lot of people in the Sundre and Olds area will be tuning in to 96.5 The Ranch to keep tabs on his progress this week in G-P. He says “well, we’ve had a lot of support from a lot of people back home that, you know, phone calls and texts and that. We’ve got a lot of people rooting for us, so we are going to do our best and do the sponsors proud and do the best we can.”
All the night one action from Grande Prairie hits the airwaves on The Ranch on Wednesday, May 27th at 7. It will include 10 heats and a total of 40 drivers competing for the Ralph Vigen Memorial Award. Races follow at 7pm each night from Thursday through Sunday.
