A 46-year old woman from Olds allegedly received payment for her role in smuggling contraband into a Correctional Service Canada facility.
Mounties say the correctional officer immediately resigned after learning about the investigation which began in July of last year.
Innisfail RCMP note that the investigation “determined that the correctional officer at the Bowden Institution had developed a romantic relationship with a serving inmate and that she was smuggling contraband into the institution for the inmate to sell at inflated prices.”
Police point out that the payment was “thousands of dollars” and the known contraband was “nicotine patches and a cell phone.”
The charge of breach of trust by a public official is slated to be answered to by the accused at a court date on May 1st in Red Deer.
Innisfail RCMP collaborated with Correctional Service Canada on the investigation and express their thanks to CSC for “quick action in discovering and reporting” the situation.
