RCMP member injured during collision investigation south of Innisfail

An Innisfail RCMP member suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital last week when a stationary police vehicle was struck by an alleged impaired driver.

It happened on February 26th at about 11:30pm. Mounties say the RCMP member was investigating a motor vehicle collision on Highway 2 just south of the Town of Innisfail and had returned to the police vehicle to complete paperwork. It was then that a Ford Explorer struck the police vehicle, causing significant damage.

Police say the driver provided breath sample showed she was nearly double the legal limit of alcohol.

A 26-year-old woman from Edmonton faces charges including impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. She has been released ahead of a court date on March 31st in Red Deer.
