The semi driver, a 40-year-old Stavely man, suffered minor injuries.

BACKGROUND

Three players from a southern Alberta hockey team are reported to have passed away in a collision on Monday.

Officials from the Southern Alberta Mustangs made the announcement on their social media Monday afternoon, stating the three were on their way to practice.

In the post, officials said, “There are no words that can adequately express the depth of our grief. These young men were more than hockey players — they were teammates, sons, brothers, friends, and deeply loved members of our Mustangs family and the communities we call home.”

Officials with the Mustangs organization state they are working with the authorities and they will share more information when it is appropriate.

Late Monday morning, the Claresholm RCMP reported being on the scene of a collision on Highway 2 at 55 Avenue, impacting northbound traffic on Highway 2.

The Mustangs are part of the Alberta Division of the United States Premier Hockey League.
